6.4 Rocky Balboa: Keep Moving Forward

"You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life, but it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!" - Rocky Balboa

How much can you take before giving up?

Two of my favorite movie series are the Rock and Creed movies because they are filled with both action and underdog stories.

Rocky and Creed both get knocked down in every movie and have to find ways to climb back to the top.

In the final Rocky movie, Rocky gives one of the most inspirational speeches I’ve heard.

He said, “You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life, but it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

As I’m writing this, I’m leaving the gym after working with a high school athlete on his shoot. Every time he missed, he put his head down.

I told him, “You won’t be a great shooter today, this week, or even this month, so stop getting so down on yourself - you are just slowing down your process. Instead, learn from every miss, pay attention to details, and focus on being more consistent, and we will celebrate the growth until you are a good shooter.”

He was hitting himself harder than he needed to for each miss, without realizing that was part of the process.

Don’t stop. Keep going no matter how many times you miss or get knocked down.

Question of the Day: How do you keep moving forward when it gets hard?
