3.11 Steve Jobs: Connect the Dots

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.” - Steve Jobs I enjoy a good commencement speech, and one of my favorites was Steve Jobs's at Stanford i n 2005. Jobs tells a story about how he dropped out of Reed College because it was expensive and he didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life. Instead of spending a lot of his parents' money on college classes that he didn’t know what to do with, he dropped in on classes that he enjoyed, like a calligraphy class that offered the best calligraphy instruction in the country. He said taking calligraphy classes taught him about fonts, spacing, and other typography concepts that he put into the design of the Mac computer.
