Spring Off-Season Basketball Offense

Offense

Some notes on what we want to accomplish this off-season from an offensive standpoint.  I want our philosophy for the spring to be that nobody can guard you 1 on 1.  You have to be able to get to the paint off the catch or the dribble, or use screens to create and advantage to get to the basket.

Beat Your Man 1 on 1
- You can’t let one person guard you
- Beat your man to get in the paint to score
- If you get in the paint and can’t get a clean shot, jump stop, pivot, and find cutters and shooters
- If you can’t get in the paint, drive to make somebody have to help to get a teammate an open shot

One on One Moves
Triple Threat

- Rip
- Jab
- Shot fake

Off The Dribble
- In and out
- Hesitation
- Stutter step
- Counters

Get Your Teammates Open
- Help your teammates create an advantage
- Set a screen for them to get them open
- Drive at their man to make her help to get them open

Use Your Teammates to Get Open
Know how to turn the corner on a ball-screen
- Know how to create an advantage when your teammate sets a screen for you
- Know when to back-cut to score, especially when the ball is in the paint after a pass or a drive

Be In Rebounding Position
- Need somebody on both blocks and the middle of the paint
- Get around your man to get the rebound
- Grab with two hands

Catch, shot fake and drive right from the left slot.  Can't beat your man so you DHO to partner who takes the advantage to drive left.  Help is coming so she hesos then attacks.  Help cuts her off so she jump stops to create an advantage.  Pivots when defense doesn't bite, and partner cuts trying to back door.  Defense does well and doesn't bite so ball-handler passes to partner then cuts off of her at the high post for a DHO.  She gets the DHO and attacks immediately the right block, meeting her defender in the paint, bumps her body to body and finishes, through the whistle, with an And 1.
