3.30 Billie Jean King: What Are You Going to Do?
“Champions keep playing until they get it right.” - Billie Jean King
Someone once told me they have voices in their head constantly asking themselves, “What are you going to do?”
When something bad happens, that voice asks, “What are you going to do?”
When they lose, fail, or get called out, it asks, “What are you going to do?”
I’ve noticed a lot of the people around me tend to ask the same question when they see me struggling, making mistakes, or being held accountable: “What are you going to do?”
Do you know what champions do? The next right thing. They lean on the work and stay committed to the plans they have created for themselves.
Billie Jean King is one of the greatest tennis players of all time, and she is famously known for her advocacy for women’s rights, including beating male tennis player Bobby Riggs in a match that was called “The Battle of the Sexes” that was watched by 90 million people worldwide.
She knows a lot about overcoming adversity and obstacles. She once said, “Champions keep playing until they get it right.”
Champions aren’t perfect; they make mistakes just like everyone else. The difference is that they just don’t stop.
She also said, “You have to see it to be it,” but seeing it can be hard when you are struggling.
What are you going to do when you face adversity?
Sometimes you have to take a step back, reimagine what the vision you have for yourself is, and then keep trying and playing until you get it right.
Question of the Day: What are you going to do? How do you keep playing until you get it right when it feels wrong?
