4.23 Jesse Owens: What it Takes

“We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” - Jesse Owens

Are you willing to do what it takes to achieve your dreams?

Most people don’t really know what it takes to make their dreams come true. It takes a lot of courage and discipline, and the ability to push yourself harder than you want, longer than you want.

Most people like living and working within their comfort zone, and they don’t want to go harder than they need to.

Jesse Owens was an American track and field star who made history at the 1936 Olympic Games by becoming the first person to win four gold medals in a single Olympics. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes in track and field history. Owens once said, “We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” This quote highlights the difference between wishing for something and actually achieving it.

Everyone has hopes, goals, or visions for what they want in life, but turning those dreams into something real, achieving them, requires more than just wanting them. Determination is the drive to keep going, even when it’s hard. Dedication is being committed and consistently working toward your goal. Self-discipline is controlling your impulses and staying focused, especially when facing distractions. Effort is putting in hard work over time.

Success at the highest levels requires all of this and more.

Question of the Day: Are you willing to do what it takes to achieve your dreams?
