How To Become Whatever You Want To Become - Part 1

The Five Year Fantasy

All great leaders have vision and know what they want out of their work, their family, and their life.  You are what you think about, so we have to create a vision for our lives that will help us keep our thoughts and focus on our success.

The first step to success is taking the time to sit down think about exactly what you want to be and what your life will look like and feel like if everything worked out perfectly.

Long-Time Perspective
Long-time perspective is the ability to look into our future while making decisions in the present.

We will use long-time perspective to plan out our next five years.

The Acton Plan
Over the next few days to a week, we will plan out our five year plan for our career, our finances, our family life, our health and fitness, and our impact on our community and the world.

This is the blueprint that can change your life.   5 years from now, you can look back on this moment and say, "Because I filled out this blueprint, I am living in the world I have always dreamed of."

What Would Your Perfect Work Life Look Like Five Years From Now.
1 – What would it look like?
2 – What would you be doing?
3 – Where would you be doing it?
4 – Who would you be working with?  What level of responsibility would you have?
5 – What kind of skills and abilities would you have?
6 – What kind of goals would you be accomplishing?
7 – What kind of status or position would you have in your field?

In planning, imagine that we have no limits and that we have the power and ability to accomplish everything we have every dreamed of if we have clear goals, we are focused, and we work diligently for it.

We greatly overestimate what we can accomplish in one year, but we greatly underestimate what we can accomplish in five years. – Peter Drucker

Idealize Your Financial Situation Five Years From Now
1 – How much do you want to be earning?
2 – What sort of lifestyle do you want to have?  What kind of home do you want to live in?
3 -  What kind of car do you want to drive?
4 – What type of material luxuries do you want to provide for yourself and your family?
5 – How much do you want to have in the bank?
6 – How much do you want to save and invest each month and each year? (in both solid amounts and percentages)
7 – How much do you want to be worth when you retire?

Remember, you have a magic slate and you can write down whatever you want, you can erase everything that has happened in your past, and you can do and be whatever you want because you have no limits.

What Does Your Ideal Family Life Look Like Five Years From Now?
1 – What would it look like?
2 – Who would you be with and who would you no longer be with or have in your life?
3 – Where and how would you be living?
4 – What kind of living standards would you have or what kind of lifestyle would you enjoy?
5 – What kind of relationships would you have with the most important people in your life?

When you fantasize about your ideal future – only ask how.

Asking how stimulates your creativity and helps you get ideas on how to accomplish your goals and dreams.  Don’t ask if, just ask how, then find ways to do the how.

You Have Five Years To Completely Change or To Grow Your Body and Health …
1 – How do you want to look, feel, and appear?
2 – What would be your ideal weight?
3 – How much would you exercise each week and each day?
4 – What would be your overall level of health and fitness?
5 – What changes would have to make in your diet, exercise routine, and health habits?

You are an important and influential figure in your community and in the world.  We make a difference in our lives and the lives of others.

Think About Your Level Of Community Involvement In Five Years …
1 – What would you be doing?
2 – What organizations would you be working with or contributing to?
3 – What causes do you believe in and support and how can you become more involved in those areas?

Take the questions from these 5 areas and write down the answers in a journal or somewhere where you can keep up with them and easily access them.  At least once a week, pull them out and evaluate whether or not your actions throughout the week are moving you closer or further away from your goals.
