7.31 Marta: How Bad do You Want It?

“You have to want it more than anyone else.” - Marta

How bad do you want it?

Marta Vieira da Silva, known simply as Marta, is one of the greatest soccer players in history, male or female. She’s a Brazilian forward and attacking midfielder known for her incredible skill, creativity, leadership, and impact on women’s soccer worldwide.

She is also known for being tough and gritty on the soccer field. I have watched her compete against the US Women’s National Team several times, and it is always impressive. The USWNT is one of the most dominant teams in sports, so when she played against them, Marta was always the underdog.

But she was one of the toughest and hardest-working people on the field.

Marta once said, “You have to want it more than anyone else,” and that is how she played.

Marta is known for chasing down balls, pressing defenders, and making plays others might give up on. Her desire to win shows in the way she plays every minute, like it matters.

Marta also wears her heart on her sleeve. When she plays, you feel her urgency—she attacks with purpose, celebrates with fire, and leads with emotion.

Finally, she takes creative risks on the dribble, in tight spaces, or against the world’s best. Wanting it more means not backing down, and Marta never does. Her will to make something happen often separates her from others with equal or more physical tools.

If you want to be the best, you have to want it more than everyone else, and it should be seen and felt in the way you work out and play.

Question of the Day: How do you show that you want it more, especially when no one’s watching?
